The London Marathon is one of the most inspiring events of the year, bringing together thousands of runners and supporters to raise funds for countless charities.
After securing a charity ballot place in the 2026 TCS London Marathon, local mental health charity Guernsey Mind entered the charity ballot again for the 2027 event.
“We were so pleased to receive a charity place this year that we decided to enter the ballot again in the hope of securing a place for 2027,” said Jo Cottell, Chief Executive of Guernsey Mind.
“We were amazed to learn that, once again, we were one of just 500 charities selected to receive a charity ballot place. What’s more, when the TCS London Marathon invited charities to enter a separate ballot for the new Saturday event, we were delighted to secure a second place too.”
A total of 41 people applied to run for Guernsey Mind. The names drawn from the hat were Brett Bewey, who will be running in the Saturday event, and James Woolrich, who will be representing Guernsey Mind on Sunday.
We would like to congratulate Brett and James and thank everyone who applied for their enthusiasm and support. We wish them both the very best as they begin their London Marathon training and fundraising and look forward to working with them both over the next few months.
Brett Bewey
“My first organised run was the Guernsey Mind 10K Challenge and, at the time, I didn’t think I could run that far. Since then, I’ve completed several marathons and ultra-marathons for charity.
“This year, I’m taking part in four ultra-marathons and raising money for Guernsey Mind. I’m a trained Mental Health First Aider, an avid supporter of Guernsey Mind and a champion of health and wellbeing initiatives in the workplace.
“I’ve entered the London Marathon ballot every year for the past six years without success, so I was absolutely delighted to secure this place. As a local runner, I can’t think of anything more special than running the London Marathon for a charity that is so close to my heart.”
James Woolrich
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to run the London Marathon in support of Guernsey Mind. I’ve been unsuccessful in the ballot up to eight times now, but I’ve always been hesitant to apply for a charity place where the fundraising wouldn’t benefit the island. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a local cause.
I have used running to improve my physical and mental wellbeing over the years and the marathon is a good test of resilience for both. It’s great to know that in undertaking this challenge I’ll be able to raise funds and awareness for Guernsey Mind’s work locally.”
